Two towns that became one

Leighton Buzzard and Linslade were separate towns, in different counties, until they were merged in 1965 to form Leighton-Linslade, now part of Central Bedfordshire. Leighton Buzzard is the old market town east of the River Ouzel. Linslade grew on the west bank after the Grand Junction Canal opened in 1800 and the London and Birmingham Railway arrived in 1838. The result is a wide spread of house ages, which we allow for by templating every kitchen.

Hard water in LU7

Anglian Water supplies almost all LU7 postcodes. Its 2025 figures put the Leighton Linslade supply zone at an average of at least 284 mg/l hardness, above the 250 mg/l that Anglian Water itself classes as hard. In practice that means limescale round taps and on the drainer. Quartz and porcelain handle it best and clean easily; marble is etched by the acidic descalers used to remove scale. Our hard water guide has the details.
