Replacement worktops in Milton Keynes

If your kitchen units are in good shape but the worktops are worn, we can replace just the worktops with quartz, granite, porcelain or marble. Across Milton Keynes, it is one of the most common jobs we do, particularly in homes where the original laminate is showing its age around the sink and hob.

  • Keeps your existing units
  • Laminate and wood swapped for stone
  • Units checked before we cut

Can stone go on the units you have?

In most cases, yes. Stone needs cabinets that are solid, level and fixed firmly to the wall, with no water damage along the sink run. When we come to template we check each unit, look for any that are out of level or have been knocked loose, and tell you if anything needs packing or extra support before the stone goes on. Problems are much cheaper to deal with at this stage than after the worktop has been cut.

What changes when laminate comes off

Laminate worktops are usually around 40 mm thick; stone is normally 20 mm or 30 mm. The new worktop will sit at a slightly different height, so check the gap under built-in appliances such as dishwashers, and the line where the worktop meets wall tiles. Tiles are often damaged when old worktops come off, which is why many people replace them with stone upstands at the same time.

Sinks, taps and hobs

A worktop change is a good moment to move from an inset sink to an undermount sink, which sits below the stone and makes wiping crumbs straight in easy. We need the exact model of sink, tap and hob before templating, because the cut-outs are made to the manufacturer’s measurements. If you are keeping the old ones, give us the model numbers or measure them for us.

Disconnecting and reconnecting

The sink and hob have to be disconnected before the old worktops come off and reconnected after the stone is fitted. Only a Gas Safe registered engineer may disconnect or reconnect a gas hob. Tell us how your kitchen is set up and we will make clear in the quote which parts of the job we do and which need your plumber, electrician or gas engineer.

Common questions

Do you remove the old worktops?

Tell us when you ask for a quote. We can include taking out and disposing of the old tops, and the quote will say so.

Will I need new tiles?

Often the bottom row of tiles is damaged when old worktops come off. Stone upstands are a neat way to cover the change.

How long will I be without a sink?

It depends on whether the old tops come off at template or on fitting day. We plan this with you when we book the job so you know in advance.
