Guide
From quote to fitting: how a stone worktop job runs
Stone worktops are made to measure for each kitchen, so the job runs in stages rather than in a single visit. Knowing the order helps you plan your kitchen fitter, plumber and electrician, and avoids the most common delays. This is how a typical job runs for our customers in Milton Keynes.
1. Quote
We start with a price based on rough measurements, a sketch or a kitchen planner drawing, plus the stone you are interested in. The quote lists what is included: the stone, thickness, edges, cut-outs, upstands or splashbacks, templating, delivery and fitting, and removal of old worktops if you need it.
2. Get the kitchen ready for templating
Templating is the exact measurement the stone is cut from, so the kitchen must be in its final position first:
- All base units fitted, level and fixed to the wall.
- Your sink, tap and hob chosen, with model numbers or cut-out sheets to hand.
- Built-in appliances decided, especially anything that sits under the worktop.
- Decisions made on upstands, splashbacks, sills and where joins can go.
If units move after templating, the stone will not fit, so this step matters more than any other.
3. Templating visit
We measure the kitchen precisely, recording every wall, corner and cut-out. We also confirm edge details, overhangs and where joins will fall, and we check the route the stone will take into the house.
4. Cutting
The slabs are cut and finished to the template in the workshop: edges profiled, sink and hob openings made, drainer grooves and tap holes cut. We confirm the fitting date with you once the template is done.
5. Fitting day
The stone is carried in, set on the units, levelled, bonded at any joins and sealed to the wall with silicone. Clear the worktops and the route in beforehand, and make sure we can park close to the house.
6. Reconnection and aftercare
Once the stone is fitted, the sink and hob can be reconnected. Gas hobs may only be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Natural stones such as granite and marble are sealed, and we explain how to look after the surface you have chosen.
Common questions
Can you measure before the units go in?
No. We template on the fitted units; measure any earlier and the stone will not match the kitchen.
Does someone need to be in?
Yes, for templating and fitting: you, or someone able to make decisions about the kitchen.
