Upstands

An upstand is a low band of stone fixed along the wall at the back of the worktop, typically around 100 mm high. It seals the gap between worktop and wall, stops water running down behind the units and is easy to wipe. Upstands are also the simplest way to hide a damaged row of tiles after a worktop replacement.

Full-height splashbacks

A full-height splashback covers the wall between the worktop and the wall cupboards or extractor. In quartz or porcelain it gives an unbroken surface with no grout lines to clean, which is especially welcome behind a sink in a hard-water area. Sockets and switches on that wall need cut-outs; we cut them to your electrician’s positions, and the electrician refits the faceplates.

Behind the hob

Stone and porcelain both work behind a hob. For a gas hob, porcelain copes best with the heat. Whatever you choose, follow the clearances in your hob’s instructions, and tell us the model so we can check them when we template.

Window sills and other pieces

If your sink sits under a window, a stone sill in the same material ties the window into the kitchen and stands up to wet hands far better than painted timber. We can add sills, shelves and small pieces to the same order so they come from the same slab.
